Frequently Asked Questions
Where is your studio located?
My home studio is located in Carmel Valley, CA.
Can I bring a friend?
Absolutely! It’s great to have a friend or family member there to witness the process and discuss it with afterward. Please let me know in advance so I have enough seating.
How can I pay?
I accept payments by cash and Venmo.
How long is the appointment?
I recommend leaving a 4 hour block of time free for our appointment. The PCA and instruction afterward typically take 3-4 hours, but I want to ensure you aren’t rushed and have time to learn how to use your colors and ask questions.
How should I prepare for the appointment?
Come to your appointment bare-faced, as sunscreen and makeup can alter how your skin looks. You’ll want to wear a neckline that is crew or lower cut so that your top doesn’t peek out between the drapes and your neck. If you’d like to try on makeup from your season, bring your daily makeup including your foundation and concealer. Bring a few of your clothing items to compare with your season’s swatchbook, and a few makeup items to compare as well. I’ll have a few simple snacks to offer, but bring what you’d like as well to get you though the appointment. If your appearance is very different from normal for any reason (sunburn, rash, etc.) on the day of your appointment, please contact me so we can reschedule, as I want to ensure you get the best experience.
What does it look like when someone dresses out of season?
To me, it seems like some people have more flexibility in dressing out of season, and it may not seem as noticeable. I know I don’t fall in this category. Negative effects of color can: make skin appear blotchy, red, paper-y, or aged; it can yellow or dull eyes and teeth; it can flatten bone structure, widen the nose, and make one’s head and neck blend together; and it can make eyebrows and lashes look sparse, or give the illusion of a five-o-clock shadow where there isn’t one. Overall it can make you look stressed, clownish, sick, older, or drastically diminished in presence. This isn’t an exhaustive list but includes commonly seen changes.
How can you tell it’s my best season?
I am looking for extensive visual markers when comparing colors: overall smoothness and healthy appearance of skin, definition of facial bone structure, whiteness of eyes and teeth, depth of eye color, definition of brows and eyelashes, lip color, and many others. Your best season will provide the best of these in comparison with the other seasons.
